Musician/composer/arranger George S. Clinton began his professional entertainment career in the country music capitol, Nashville, Tennessee, after graduating with a degree in music and drama from Middle Tennessee State University. He moved to Los Angeles and found work as a writer at Warner Brothers Studios penning hits for various artists such as Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, and Joe Cocker. He formed his group, the George Clinton Band, which won critical acclaim in the late 1970s and early '80s and also brought him to the attention of a Hollywood producer. He was given the opportunity to develop scores for two Cheech and Chong movies and his star rose from there. His orchestral approach, mixed with a pop/rock sensibility, can be heard in such diverse entities as "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee," "The Santa Claus 2," "Mortal Kombat," and "The Lion of Africa." He has worked numerous times with softcore filmmaker Zalman King (primarily on "The Red Shoe Diaries" series) and on several Mike Myers comedies, and even scored a lesser known John Waters romp, "A Dirty Shame." In addition to his film work, Clinton has composed numerous concert works and three musicals. An advisor at the Sundance Composers Lab, he is also the winner of the Richard Kirk Career Achievement Award from the BMI Film Music Awards.
